An icon of the New York theatre scene, Jimmy (Rami Malek) is facing a terminal illness in the late 1980s. Yet he refuses to let his diagnosis define him. Set against the tension between time running out and the desire to experience every moment to the fullest, the film unfolds as a story about the fragility of life, love, and the need to create. Director Ira Sachs blends an intimate relationship drama with musical and stylized elements. The music serves as an emotional commentary on the unfolding events, at times revealing the characters’ inner worlds more powerfully than dialogue. The film was nominated for both the Palme d’Or and the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
