Paloma Schneideman’s feature debut captures first love and adolescence without sentimentality or idealisation. The story of fourteen-year-old Sid, who spends the summer 2006 in New Zealand, is told through subjectively composed shots and a shallow depth of field, emphasising her inner experience. The film portrays the awkwardness of everyday situations, emotional uncertainty and the ambiguity of young people’s behaviour, offering an unvarnished yet authentic perspective on the fragility of first emotional experiences and the longing for acceptance. This coming-of-age drama premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it competed for the Grand Jury Prize.
