Megan is a typical American high-school girl. She leads the school cheerleading squad, dates the captain of the football team… His kisses, though, she can do without. Instead, she’s very close with her fellow cheerleaders, and the inside of her locker is pasted with nothing but posters of girls. In her parents’ and friends’ eyes, Megan is an out-and-out lesbian, and so they send her to a reform camp where two dedicated leaders try to convert their campers into proper heterosexuals.
A comedy about serious issues, hypocrisy and secrecy, but ultimately about the determination to be oneself. The 1999 film offers a comic look at the “conversion” of homosexuals in 1990s America, ripe for comparison to the more recent portrayal of the same phenomenon in The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
