A young Pakistani man, Omar, is torn between two possible approaches to life as an immigrant in England. One is represented by his embittered intellectual father, who completely distances himself from Western culture. The other is shown by his uncle, who has embraced Thatcher-era individualism and decided to “milk the system” by using every legal and illegal opportunity available. Things become even more complicated when Omar decides to open a charming laundrette with his new white boyfriend.
