Madrid, 1980. Successful director Enrique Serrano has long searched in vain for a subject that interests him, when he’s suddenly interrupted by an unexpected guest. At first, he doesn’t recognize his old classmate Ignacio, who has come to request a role, and Enrique turns him away, despite Ignacio reminding him of his past. After Ignacio leaves, the novella he gives to him captures Enrique’s imagination, unearthing dormant memories. As boys in the 1960s, they met at a Jesuit school, where together they discovered cinema, as well as love, sex and fear. A witness of their awakening, as well as a major figure in it, was Father Manolo, school headmaster and literature teacher, who personified the two-facedness of religious institutions at the time. Ignacio’s story so intrigues Enrique that he starts searching for his sometime intimate friend, who he’d since only met once in the 1970s. Realizing that he’s finally discovered the subject he’s long after, he’s determined to make it into a film. Unbeknownst to him, however, are the revelations his search for his long-lost friend will unveil.
